Family Reunion 2011: Des Moines, IA Day 2

Day 2 started with a pig.

Yes, yes, I know.. it's not a real one.. but Jules was certainly fascinated by it nonetheless.. ;)

We had lunch at the Machine Shed.. who happen to have a fantastic marketing set up there.. As you walk in... the heavens sing on all the funky, kitschy, tchocke... did i spell them right??? things that you've just got to have! Whew.. I walked out with just a mooing cow flashlight that attaches to my key ring. Jules loved it for about 4 minutes and 31 seconds.. and then she was done.

Then we headed over to Living History Farms. The day dawned nice enough.. but then.. well... Mother Nature wanted to play. She drizzled.. dried up.. sprinkled.. dried up.. rained... during this all.. Jules got to play with Grandma's spare umbrella.

I love this picture. Her little legs bowed in as she tried to get her bearings with the thing. Jason and Matt walking along being manly men who don't need no stinkin' girlie umbrella.. I kid.. they didn't say that. They did however let her have her own umbrella and took the rain showers like rock stars.

This is a tree. In case you were wondering... :)

This is the first 'farm/hut' we found.. while touring the Living History Farms you trek through the woods and periodically come upon a homestead based upon a historical period. A lady was outside scraping a deer hide and letting people give it a shot. I was true to form and got all bleeding heart and had to walk away. I am so silly. I eat hamburgers for jiminy crickets sakes! Silly.

Such pretty flowers.. they made me happy. I was loving this trek.

The rain just trickled down into the forest/glen we were hiking through. I thought it was beautiful and magical and kept waiting for little sprites to come out and play.. yes.. my imagination gets the best of me sometimes.. but I kinda like it that way ;)

We saw bulls.. cows... big horned things.. big. Jules had fallen asleep at this point and I was secretly very happy about that. Cows so close.. might have been too much temptation for her. Especially if she'd seen the dancing calf in the meadow right next to these guys.

This here is my funny... How many Runge's does it take to read a map?

We have a winner! Four! Four Runges! Whew! Got a little concerned there that we might get lost in the land that time forgot...

Later that night at the Flynn Family Barn.. Jules was tired.. I was hot and sweaty and way too nervous to be social. I am such a social un-butterfly at times. I really hope that is not one of the traits Jules inherits from me.

I threw this one in just in case you thought she was all smiles and daisies.. not so folks. She's got her moments too!

Jason and his Mom, Diane. I love this shot. It's not always easy to get one of them to smile for a picture.. but both? That's a score and I will treasure this one for a long time to come. Love you guys!!!

The Flynn Family Barn. This is where Jason and Julia's ancestors delivered milk from.. and where our gathering was hosted at.

That's the end of day 2 folks. Sorry if I'm overwhelming with the photos.. but I did warn you.. and it is kinda our family photo album so.. if you want more.. stay tuned for Days 3 and 4!

Love, Angie

P.S. sorry for the spacing issues.. Blogger and I are not agreeing today...grrrrr
