Junk Jaunt 2011 - September 24th

Junk Jaunt you ask? Yes. Junk Jaunt. Just as it sounds. It's a stretch of 'junk' sales that at times borders trash and others.. Treasures Galore!

Mom and Lakey started 3 years ago and I missed out,ya know.. new baby and all! Last year we got to jaunt together, including Jules, on 1 of our 2 days of junkin' and this year it was just Mom, Lake and I.

This is what our day started with. A beautiful beginning...

Then we got gas.. and I forgot the pin number for my ATM. Ok, we'll hit the actual bank. No biggie.

Then we get halfway between Moms house and the town that has my bank.. maybe 10-15 minutes out.. and we realized we forgot the oh so precious maps that outlined our junking for the day. Crap, giggles and a squeal of tires later.. we headed back to Moms!

Whew. Map in hand, cappucinos at the ready and we're off!

We started in Grand Island.. not really a junk stop but my bank was there and they had an antique flea market going on. First thing as we walk into the door,at the flea market that is... Mom and I notice 2 chenille spreads on a vendors table. She had them marked at $15 and $20. As we were deciding what we would do with them, the lady at the table strolled over and said.. 'I'll give you both for $20'.

Seriously? A wee bit of hesitation later (I had no idea what I would do with mine but..)deal. They were ours.

Lots and lots of lovely treasures there. I met a wonderful older lady who had fantastic stories to go along with the jewelry she was offering. Beautiful pieces. I found my birthstone in such a beautiful setting.. and such a lovely story with it.. the price at 1100.00 stretched my 85.00 budget though! Oh well.. another day!

We also found a vendor who carried $1 costume jewelry. Steep you say? Nope, cheap. Fun stuff to play with for very little. After we'd visited his booth, we couldn't bring ourselves to purchase from any other costume vendors, the majority of which were priced 5-10% higher than him per piece.

We found that trend repeating itself over and over. Some vendors were happy to bargain and offer you a fantastic steal for their junk.. others.. not gonna give a dirt clod away for less than 5 bucks. Oh well.. just made the hunt that more exciting!

I didn't take a ton of pictures and what I got of Lake and Mom, they'd hurt me for posting so.. here's one safe one from Riverview Acres. :)

This lovely artist makes flower art out of copper tubing and old plates, saucers, bowls and cups. Fantastic creativity!

Here's the loot of all three of us:
In the hodge podge of collections, you can see the full size bed I got for Jules at $20. Yep, $20 bucks for a beautiful bed frame that I now have a chenille bedspread to go on! Next to that is a ginormous wooden mirror I got for $10 and a metal stand I'm going to use as a towel rack in the guest bathroom downstairs. I'm stuck in a rut on that one though.. I love the patina it has but there is rust so it's not the friendliest.. I could paint/spray it but then I'd lose the patina.. grr.. decisions, decisions.. never my strength! I figure a trip to the hardware store is up soon... there's got to be something out there that will make me happy!

The three of us.. oh so glamorous ladies...

... and then the true colors come flying out!

Love you ladies!

P.S. While I was out getting my Junk on.. Jules was getting to experience one of her firsts.. Grandma and Grandpa Jack took her to her first ever movie.. Lion King in 3D. Grandma said Jules did great with the glasses and happily munched her way through her popcorn(she's a little popcorn monster!).. added bonus.. there was only like.. well, 5 or 6 trips to the bathroom!
