Florence + the Machine

This last weekend at work we had no A/C. It was hot. Really, really hot. But, being one to always try to look and find the positive in all things.. I looked.. and I found.

Some of you may not know but back in the day I was a HUGE Tori Amos fan.. loved her. Love, loved, love her. So much so, Jason used to mock me for it. Bugger him and his screeching Queensryche love (I'll give him Silent Lucidity but that's it.. which, ironically, he dislikes that song, will we ever agree on anything? :) )

No matter. Music is one of the few things that, in my life, no matter what someone else thought of it, if I connected to it, it was mine and no one, no matter their opinion would change that.

Very few things do I hold so steadfastly true to. Music is intensely personal. There is a release and total ability to drown yourself in it's beauty wether it be the score from a favorite movie (Last of the Mohicans used to be on replay non stop for months straight way back when) to music that no matter when you hear it, makes you rock out ;) I believe I've mentioned Matchbox Twenty's 'How Far We've Come' here before...

All this to say, during the heatwave at work, we had the lights and all non working computers off to conserve heat. So, since I work alone overnights and we had GINORMOUS can't hear much over them commercial fans blowing in the hallways along with a good 7-10 fans in our tiny office.. it was dark and noisy and thankfully calm in all our territories. So... I had myself a little music extravaganza!

I was randomly youtubing videos for some of my favorite songs and stumbled upon Florence and the Machines hour + long live performance at the Royal Albert Hall (I fell in love from the first time I heard her astonishing voice last year and have been hooked ever since). Her voice has the same effect Tori's had back in the day.  I can listen to her over and over and over again and love it!

Watching her perform live is absolutely mesmerizing to me. She stands in front of a microphone, opens her mouth and this larger than life voice that can dance up and down the scale so quickly and effortlessly just **sigh** takes me to a very lovely happy place!  No flash, bouncing around special effects. Just the simple beauty of a few strategically placed eye pleasers and then her voice.

Oh to not sound like an alleycat in heat when I sing along with her would be wonderful though.  But alas.. too many years of doing bad things beat the crap out of the minimal tunage I once carried so.. alleycat I sound like when I sing along. :)

All this to say.. who knows what! I just like the girls voice. A lot!

More overnight Angie randomness I guess!

Take care,
Ang
