We did it! Jules and I attended our first 5k and although we did not run beyond the first block.. we did walk/meander the 3 mile stretch of absolute fun-ness!
If you haven't heard of the Color Run, youtube it and check out the Arizona fun run video.. it's awesome! It's motto is that it's the happies 5k on the planet! I agree wholeheartedly!
Mom, Lakey and I, with Jules in tow, headed up to Omaha last Saturday morning to get our color on. What it is, is a celebration to get up and move... and get colored!
At each mile marker there is a color station set up. By station I mean, volunteers with squeeze bottles fill with powder color that they plaster you with as you walk by them.
So, as you approached each station, you were gobsmacked by the cloud of color you were about to enter! Thankfully I had brought an old towel for Jules to cover her face with.. otherwise I don't think we would of had such a great time!
Our first color experience was neon pink.. loved it! People were literally dropping to the street to roll in the piles of color just to get themselves fully and completely emerged!
Next up was blue and then orange.. I think.. I don't really remember to be honest! By the end of the walk, with the 'Hills are alive with color' ringing through my head in the 102 degree temps and fear of the stroller slipping from my grasp as we coasted down the same ginormous hills we had pushed ourselves up.. I was a wee bit exhausted by the heat!
But I loved it! I will happily do it again and again and again! The fact that Jules was brave enough to get out and walk with me was fantastic! We were towards the back and at the pace we were setting.. my mantra was 'somebody's got to be last, so, why not us?'
Sure enough, we got to the last color.. and stopped! We were sidetracked by the sprinklers and decided to have some water fun! Totally worth not finishing the race!
Pictures you ask? I have a few but.. I didn't really get any cool shots of the color check points.. I was too busy taking it all in!
Mom and Lakey in front of Jules and I, waiting for our 'heat' to be sent off into the color madness!
Jules, ready to make a break for it!
The masses in front of us, a total of 13,000 participants! They said it was the largest 5k ever held in Nebraska! Woot, woot!
This was the last we saw of Lake until the end! Shes the one on the far left with the shiny shoes!
We found Waldo.. and then passed him by..
Then we have the end of the race where Mama's face was nearly purple between the color splashes and the heat!
She looks so happy doesn't she?
Lakey and Jules!
It's blurry but it's the fabulous after shot of the 4 of us all 'colored' up! Lakey went so fast, she barely got color, Mama was just a touch more than Lake!
I, however, think I got double shots! Since they didn't aim for Jules, I think they took their color happiness out on me! As I'd pass by someone with a color bottle, not only did they get my front but my sides and my back also! For the next 4 days, I had pink color stains on my arms, and blue/purple on my backside!
Loved it! Loved it, Loved it!
Next year, here's to being sinus infection/chest cold free and better shape, so that I can actually run more than a block and not bum out Mom! Sorry about that Mom!
Love, Ang
