June, oh June.. where have you gone???

Wow. It just seemed like it was June 1st a few days ago.. all of a sudden, now it's July 1st. Seriously... July 1st???

Yeesh, I haven't even gotten my 4th of July paraphernelia out yet. What kind of an example am I setting for my kid? No decor to celebrate? She might get the impression we're minimalists here at Casa Runge.. HA! I dream!

June was exciting.. lots of happenings in June. What did we do you ask? Hmmm....

Well somewhere in there we had a fire. Thankfully a) it was outside b) it was at the curb c)Jason was coming home from work and was able to help fight it with our home fire extinguisher while the fire department was en route d) Nobody was hurt, unless you count the couch... and the sidewalk.. and the grass...

The neighbor across the street reported a group of young teens that had been walking by shortly before it went up in flames. The going theory was that they must have found the couch an irresistable call to flame.

This all happened around 2am mind you.

So when the front door slammed, in my ignorance... I had some unfriendly thoughts about how loud Jason was being. Ha! Silly me. A short while later I heard sirens.. and I thought, seriously, can't a girl catch a break? But then the sirens made one last 'Woop' before stopping right outside our house.

Then I thought.. OH MY G*D. Jason's been hurt, he's had a heart attack, someone's called an ambulance. I jumped out of bed, peered out the window while frantically trying to put on pants and I saw a very large bonfire at our curb where our old couch had been resting.

Relief, fear and a few(lets be honest here.. a lot of) curse words went through my head in a nano second... then repeated. In the short time it took me to dress, get out the door etc, the flames were down to nothing as was the couch. Poor thing.

In the end, the couch, the concrete and the grass were the worst hit. The neighbors car was thankfully far enough away that they had minimal smoke damage and since Jason was at work, both of our cars were also far enough away. The scariest bit was noticing the flames on the grass came up close to the shut off valve for our natural gas service line. I really don't want to think about that too much. Not a good thing if it would have overheated.

Jules slept through it all. Everyone was safe, Jason was our hero and our grass is now slowly healing. All in all, an ideal fire if you're ever going to be subjected to one. As I just typed this I realized that's fire #2 at Casa Runge.. Hunh. Go figure. Ah! Wrong, that's fire #3. Yikes! We set the hot tub on fire shortly after moving in.. and then I almost torched the bathroom one Fall while burning cheap-o tealights in festive containers. Poor Jason was the hero both times there also.. Go Hubs! Our lessons learned? Quit smoking and ditch the tealights. Both of which we've successfully done and have no plans to return to!

Well.. for sticking with me through that lengthy story.. here's a cutie shot of Jules posing with her 'tattoos' yesterday... she made the faces and poses all on her own, I was just asking for a cheese!

Take care,
Ang
